Curly Hair Secrets

After having curly hair for 26 years, I'm finally in a place to share what works for me and what doesn't

When it comes to hair, they always say you want what you haven't got. I desperately wanted straight hair for so long that I ruined my curls for years. But now they're back and they're here to stay (I hope). This post might just help you discover and embrace your curly hair. Keep reading for my top five tips...

1. Use a good conditioner

If you have curly, wavy or frizzy hair, never underestimate what a good conditioner can do. It took me years to find this one, but I use TIGI Bed Head Colour Goddess. Its in an orange tub labelled as Miracle Treatment Hair Mask for Coloured Hair, but I use it every time I wash my hair and it makes it SO silky. Find a good conditioner that works for you.

2. Do not towel dry your hair, EVER

This is damaging for all hair types, so please don't do it to your hair. I also never blow dry my hair if I want it naturally curly (the frizz is something else, worse than Hermione).

3. Never brush curly hair

I'm sure you've heard this one, never brush curly hair, it will quadruple in size and you'll be an instant ball of frizz. The only exception is if you are blow drying your hair to straighten it, then of course, brushing is acceptable. Only brush with a Tangle Teezer though.

4. Don't use heat too often

"You might just find that your hair is naturally curly if you let it be."

When I was younger I hated my curly hair. It wasn't cool so I started straightening it in primary school and didn't stop for many years. This ruined my hair. I didn't even know how curly my hair could be because I never gave it a chance, knew how to style it or what products to use. I think the moral of the story here is don't always listen to what people say, you do you. You might just find that your hair is naturally curly if you let it be.

5. MoroccanOil Treatment

I swear by MoroccanOil. It's quite expensive but a little goes a long way. I think it says don't use on wet hair, but I always scrunch a pea sized amount into my hair after a shower (and don't brush it!). Then just let it dry naturally. It smells AMAZING too. Hands down the best hair product I have ever used.
